About Us
We are two sisters who have been textile enthusiasts. The love for textiles blossomed as the two sisters gazed at the handloom saris collection of their mom ,who swore to wear only cottons, in awe. The love further unfolded, as these girls explored and accompanied their mom in exploring the new handloom styles and techniques in national exhibitions and on their trips to the remote pockets.
What started as a love for the craftsmanship in textiles, now materialized into House of Leela for two reasons.
One, the craft is losing relevance as the clothing styles and preferences have changed for the Millennials and the Gen-Z. That is exactly why we are making this craftsmanship relevant again by assimilating it into today's vogue, ensuring its continued presence in the ever-changing tapestry of fashion.
Two, in the remote pockets of India, there exist communities whose livelihoods are intricately woven with the threads of tradition despite the waning prominence of the Indian loom textiles and dwindling incomes. However, the persistence in the pursuit of the craft is not driven by a lack of alternatives but is fueled by an enduring love and pride in their craft. As quoted by one of our weavers "Resilience - The anchor worth weighing, the thread worth weaving and the battle worth winning".
Thus, House of Leela was born– with a collective dream. A dream that inspired us to add value to the craft and the craftsmen on whatever scale we can. Join us in reviving the craftsmanship, and infusing joy into the pockets of India that have held onto tradition and love for the craft amidst changing times.
